Do you have to count calories to lose weight?

The answer to this question is NO.  It has been written about year after year to cut calories and food and drink intake to lose weight and get bikini ready. This is not necessarily true.

Your body gets the energy it needs from food through a process called metabolism.   So why would you want to cut food out? Metabolism is a complicated chemical process, so it’s not surprising that many people think of it in its simplest sense: as something that influences how easily our bodies gain or lose weight.

As a personal trainer and lifestyle coach I have heard time after time that people suggest that eating less is the viable option to loose weight.  Less food means less excess body fat right?  Wrong!  The human body is a funny thing. It’s VERY ADAPTABLE for survival. So when you give it less food, the result is a slow metabolism for survival purposes. That’s why it is important to take a break from your diet (but stay in control of your food intake) and focus on eating healthy, balanced meals with exercise. This will prevent your metabolism from getting too slow.

Hundreds and thousands of years ago, when eating was a matter of survival, the body would protect itself by slowing down the rate that it burned calories (lower metabolism) to maintain weight. In modern society, we have the opposite problem of too much food, temptation and consequent weight gain.

9 times out of 10 when I start clients on a new eating program I am significantly increasing the amount of healthy food intake.  They are not only surprised on how much food they have to eat but in only a short few months they are shocked with the results they receive.  Dramatically lower body fat, increase in muscle mass and energy for days .  So what they are left with is a more toned body with tons of energy to continue doing the things they love.

So say goodbye to those energy lowering FAD diets and really get in love with eating fresh wholesome food and always feeling satisfied.
